Q – Can a booster be involved in any way when a prospect is on an official or unofficial visit?
A – No. Boosters are precluded from all recruiting activities.

Q – When is a prospective student-athlete considered an enrolled student-athlete?
A – A prospect becomes an enrolled student-athlete when he or she reports for regular squad practices or on the first day of class; whichever happens first.

Q – Can a booster attend a high school game?
A – Yes, however, since NCAA rules equate recruiting contact with a prospect’s parents, it is not permissible to speak with parents for the purposes of recruiting the prospect.

Q – Can a booster accompany a coach on an in-home visit?
A – No.

Q – I am a booster of Davidson College Athletics, but a friend’s child is being recruited by one of Davidson’s coaches, can I still have contact with this family?
A – Yes, if you have a pre-existing relationship with the family, it can continue. You can continue with all normal activities you have always done. Don’t begin to do special things because he/she is a prospect.

Q – Can a booster invite prospects into their homes to talk about Davidson Athletics?
A – No.

Q – Can boosters provide meals for prospects?
A – No

Q -- I saw a high school player who I think would be a great prospect for Davidson College, What can I do?
A – It would be best not to talk with this individual, his/her coach, or his/her parents. Instead contact the Davidson College coach and give him/her the prospects name, school and position. Also, send any newspaper clippings you may find to the respective Davidson coach.

Q – Davidson College coaches recruit in my area all the time. Can I do anything special for him/her?
A – Yes. It is permissible to offer for him/her to stay with you in your home, provide him/her a car, etc. However, please make sure that these are for the use of the coach only, not for the prospects that he/she is seeing.

Q – Is it permissible for a booster to reimburse the coach of a prospect for expenses incurred in transporting a prospect to visit the campus?
A – No.

Q – Is it permissible for an athletics representative to provide summer employment for student-athletes?
A – Yes, however, please remember that compensation must be paid only for work actually performed and at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for services of like character. Such employment should be arranged through the athletic department.

Q – May a student-athlete’s name or picture be used to directly or indirectly advertise, recommend, or promote the sale or use of a commercial product or service?
A – No. Such activity would jeopardize the eligibility of the student-athlete.

Q – Is it permissible for an athletics representative to provide enrolled student-athletes a home cooked meal?
A – Yes. As long as it is on an occasional basis and any such meal is not at a restaurant. Prior approval from the athletic department is a must in this situation.

Q – May a student-athlete make a public appearance at a business establishment for any purpose such as signing autographs?
A – No.

Q – Can a booster provide gifts or awards to a student-athlete for his or her athletics performance?
A – No. All awards must conform to NCAA awards legislation and must be approved by Davidson College.

Q – A Davidson College team is playing against a local college. I would like to invite the team over to dinner after the contest. Is this permissible?
A – Yes. Since meals for away-from-home contest are permissible, it would be okay for you to have a reasonable meal for the team at either a local restaurant or at your home. Be sure to coordinate your efforts well in advance with the coach.

Q – Is it permissible for a booster to provide transportation to student-athletes, or lend them a vehicle for a period of time?
A – No.

Q – Once an individual has been identified as a booster, how long does he or she retain that status?
A – Forever.

Q – Is Davidson College responsible for the actions of its boosters and booster support groups?
A – Yes. Boosters are governed by the same NCAA rules and regulations as those placed upon all institutional staff members.
