DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson head men's soccer coach Matt Spear recently announced that Jeff Bilyk will be joining his staff as an assistant coach for the 2007 campaign. Bilyk was an All-American at Clemson before playing three seasons on Major League Soccer's (MLS) Miami Fusion FC from 1999-2001.

“I am extremely excited and honored to be a part of one of the most prestigious colleges in the country,” commented Bilyk. “Matt Spear and Clint Peay have built a tremendous program here at Davidson and I am looking forward to contributing to the team's future successes.”

Along with his long list of playing accomplishments, which includes All-American, All-South and All-Conference recognition, Bilyk was a member of Clemson's student-athlete Honor Roll while receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing.

“Jeff is an excellent addition to our program,” said Spear, who returns for his seventh season at the helm of his alma mater, where he holds the program's best winning percentage. “His experience as an All-American Captain at Clemson demonstrates his achievements in the South Region, Atlantic Coast Conference and Division I.”

Following a successful collegiate career, Bilyk enjoyed professional playing stints with the Miami Fusion of the MLS (1999-2001) and the United Soccer League's Milwaukee Rampage (2002) and Virginia Beach Mariners (2003-06). In his his final season with the Mariners he was named the club's Most Valuable Player.

“Jeff battled against many of the same teams we face this season. He relishes the opportunity to battle the very best that NCAA Soccer offers. Jeff moved on to a successful pro career in Major League Soccer, and then to the USL. Many of our Davidson players (and recruits) dream of playing professionally. Like Coach Peay, Jeff will be a tremendous resource of knowledge and experience on taking one's game to the next level,” said Spear.

Bilyk has been coaching ODP (Olympic Development Program) soccer for several years and holds a United States Soccer Federation “B” Coaching Certification. Outside of his coaching duties at Davidson College he will serve as a coach in North Mecklenburg Youth Soccer.

Jeff and his wife Angela reside in Mooresville, N.C.
