CLEMSON, S.C. -- Freshman Geoffrey Peitz won a pair of individual titles in his collegiate debut, and sophomores Lindsey Martin and Anna Stringfield continued their winning ways as the Wildcat men's and women's swimming teams opened the 2008-09 season at Clemson University Saturday.

In dual meet competition, Clemson defeated both the men (186-99) and the women (192-103).

Pietz won the 200 back with a time of 1:56.57 and the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.30 to lead the Wildcat men.

Junior Nate Ladner also had a strong day of competition, finishing first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.61 and as runner-up in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.37.

The men's 400 freestyle relay team of senior Merrit Peele, freshman Curtis Chaney, senior Andrew Carlson and freshman Joe Burquist also turned in the top time of 3:13.74.

On the women's side, Martin won the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.73 and finished second in both the 50 (24.47) and 200 freestyles (1:55.29). Classmate Stringfield won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:08.03.

The Wildcats will return to action after a week off, traveling to East Carolina on Oct. 17.
