GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats, the fourth seed in the South division, suffered a season-ending 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-22) loss to the Samford Bulldogs, the North division's top seed, in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Volleyball tournament Friday afternoon in UNC Greensboro's Fleming Gym.
Davidson finishes the season with a 12-20 overall record. Samford improves to 28-4 overall and advances to tomorrow's semifinals to meet Furman, the second seed in the Southern division, at 2 p.m. Furman defeated Chattanooga, 3-2, in the day's first match.
Samford was led by Kirstein Sosnowski, a Second Team All-SoCon selection, and SoCon Player of the Year Ashley Adams. Sosnowski tallied a match-high 11 kills and a pair of blocks, while Adams added 10 kills and hit a match-best .529. Samantha Bland served six of the Bulldog's 14 team aces.
The Wildcats were paced by freshman
Madison Benedict, who totaled eight kills on 12 swings to go along with a pair of blocks and digs. Senior
Kittery Neale had six kills, three assists and five digs in her final tournament action.
The College of Charleston and Elon will battle in the 4:30 p.m. quarterfinal, and Greensboro and Georgia Southern will round out the quarterfinal action at 7p.m. The winner of the final two matches will play in the second semifinal match tomorrow at 4 p.m. For complete SoCon tournament information, visit the
