Volleyball Picked Third in South Division, Neale Named Preseason All-SoCon

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson Wildcat volleyball team was picked to finish third in the South divison in the Southern Conference Volleyball Preseason Poll, and senior team captain Kittery Neale was named to the All-Southern Conference Preseason Team, as selected by the league's head coaches and released today by the conference office.
"This is a great honor for Kittery, and I am pleased that the league coaches respect and regard her this highly," head coach Tim Cowie said. "We are extremely excited for the upcoming season, and rather than focus too much of our energies on preseason polls, we are always looking towards postseason play."
After meeting in last year's tournament final, the College of Charleston and UNC Greensboro were picked to win the South and North divisions, respectively. Furman also finished ahead of Davidson in the South division, which is rounded out by Georgia Southern, Wofford and The Citadel.
The defending regular-season and tournament champion Cougars received 11 first-place votes and 66 overall points, coming off their fourth straight tournament championship and seventh straight regular-season championships. Charleston returns eight members, including SoCon Freshman of the Year Cole Dawley.
The Spartans received 10 first-place votes and 65 overall votes, returning 14 players from a team that went 20-15 during the regular season, but fell to the Cougars 3-1 in the SoCon tournament finals. Appalachian State, Elon, Samford, Chattanooga and Western Carolina round out the North division.
The conference also announced the 12-member preseason all-Southern Conference team, highlighted by 2007 SoCon Libero of the Year Lara Newberry (Chattanooga) and 2007 SoCon Freshman of the Year Cole Dawley (College of Charleston).
