DAVIDSON, N.C. - After two rounds of play in cold and rainy conditions at the River Run Country Club on Monday, Liberty leads the 12-team field at the 2009 Davidson College Invitational. The hosting Davidson golf team sits eighth led, by
John Skeadas.
Liberty posted a two-round score of 591 (287+304) to earn a two-stroke lead over the leading Southern Conference team, Wofford (593, 295+298). Wofford’s Garrett Medeiros holds a six-stroke lead individually after posting back-to-back 70’s.
The Wildcats combined for a 302 in the first round and a 313 in the second for a two-round total of 615.
Jackson Taylor led Davidson after the first round with a one-over par 73, but shot an 80 in the second to fall to a tie for 26th overall. Skeadas leads the ‘Cats in a tie for 12th place overall with a two-round score of 151 (76+75).
Bobby Urso is also locked in the tie for 26th place with a 153 (76+77).
Christopher Rollins (162) and
Walker Allen (164) rounded out Davidson’s scoring group.
Davidson will tee off at the 10th hole at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday for the third and final round.
The Invitational is taking place at the River Run Country Club, a 7,208-yard, par-72 championship course located in Davidson. The course was recognized by
Golf Reporter as one of the finest tracks in the Southeast, and went through a complete renovation in 2007, including a rebuilding of all of the greens, and a laser-leveling of the tee boxes. It is one of the home courses for the Davidson golf program, giving the ‘Cats one of the top facilities in the area.
