RADFORD, Va. – Ellie Szykowny was named the NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring the game-winning goal for Davidson in Saturday’s field hockey win over Longwood.

Szykowny, a junior forward from Columbus, Ohio, played a vital role in Davidson’s 4-2 victory in the regular season finale. Trailing 2-1 in the second half, the junior forward assisted on the equalizing goal just minutes after the Lancers took the lead. With 2:38 remaining in the match, she tipped in the game-winner, helping the Wildcats finish third in the East Division.

The conference award is Szykowny’s first. She is the first Wildcat to earn the offensive weekly award this season. Freshmen Finley Amato (Lake Forest, Ill.), Annie Evans (Lake Forest, Ill.), and Brit Donaldson (Charlotte, N.C.) combined to win the NorPac East Rookie of the Week award five times during the 10-week regular season.

The Wildcats will next face California, the NorPac West second seed, in the NorPac Championships at Stanford on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. PST (9:30 EST).
