
Martin Highlights Dual Meet against Wolfpack

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Leading the Davidson Wildcat swimming and diving team, Lindsey Martin continued her winning ways with a pair of individual titles, but the NC State Wolfpack was victorious on both sides of a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Cannon Natatorium.
The Wolfpack men (3-0) downed Davidson (0-6), 167-100, while the Wildcat women (1-5) dropped a 157-129 decision to NC State (4-1).
Martin swept the freestyle sprints, winning the 50 free with a time of 23.79 and the 100 free in 51.94.
For the Wildcat men, sophomore Geoffrey Peitz won the 100 back with a time of 53.31, and freshman Drew Onken continued winning, by taking the title in the 400 IM with a time of 4:06.42. Peitz also finished second in the 200 back with a time of 1:55.33, while Onken was the runner-up in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.41. Sophomore Curtis Chaney also turned in a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.40.
Martin was the only Davidson women to win an individual title though, several were close. Freshman Kelsi Hobbs was the runner-up in both backstroke events, finishing second in the 100 in a time of 1:00.19 and in the 200 back in 2:08.55.
Junior Emily Castle was just out-touched in the 100 fly, finishing second in 57.08 to NC State's Patrice Dason (57.00), and classmate Jessica Delgehausen was second in the 500 free (5:07.79). Senior Linnea Buttermore placed second on the 1-meter with a score of 251.71.
The Wildcat women also turned in a pair of runner-up finishes in the relays. The 200 medley relay team of Hobbs, senior Caroline Curtiss, Castle and Martin touched second with a time of 1:50.34, and the 200 free relay team of Martin, junior Alexa Richardson, freshman Jean DeOrnellas and Castle was second in 1:38.34.
Both Wildcat men relays finished in the second spot as well, with the 200 medley team of Peitz, Onken, senior Miller Williams and junior Bryan Droll doing so in 1:36.21, and the 200 free team of Peitz, freshman Wills Cooper, junior Tennant Brastow and Droll in 1:26.71.
The Wildcats will now take three weekends off to prepare for the Nike Invitational at Kenyon College Dec. 3, the finale of the first half of the season.
