DAVIDSON, N.C. - Senior Lance Harden was named the Davidson men’s cross country team’s 2009 most valuable runner after leading the team through one of its best seasons in program history.

Harden also received the High Point award as the team’s top scorer, as he was Davidson’s top-finisher at each meet. Harden was also one of the top runners in the Southern Conference, as he was named the SoCon Runner of the Month in both September and October, and earned All-SoCon honors with a third-place finish at the SoCon Championship. The Apex, N.C. native ran the fastest 8K time in Davidson cross country history at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, which he completed in 24:44.

Finishing second on the team to Harden in five-of-six meets was sophomore Ryan Hopkins, who was named as the team’s most improved runner. Hopkins ran the second-fastest 8K time in Davidson history, finishing six seconds behind Harden at the Louisville meet in 24:50. Hopkins drew second-team all-conference honors at the SoCon Championship meet.

Senior Tom Divinnie earned the Fred Borch Award, which recognizes an athlete who has overcome adversity to significantly improve his running performances and contribute positively to the overall team effort. Divinnie overcame injury to become one of the team’s top performers in 2009, as his time of 25:06 at the Greater Louisville meet was the 10th-fastest in team history. Divinnie was also the team’s second-finisher at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet, at which the ‘Cats placed 12th out of 35 teams in one of the best performances in program history.
