DAVIDSON, N.C. -- After helping the Wildcats baseball team to a 4-1 opening week, senior shortstop
Matt Webb was named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all sporting events from Feb. 18-24, the league office announced Wednesday.
The senior sports a 3.752 GPA in psychology in the classroom.
On the diamond, Webb batted .444 in five games, hitting two doubles and driving in two RBIs while scoring seven runs. Webb has also been perfect on the base paths, going 5-for-5 in stolen bases.
Webb also pitched a hitless ninth inning, retiring the only three batters he faced in the 'Cats' 12-5 win over Lafayette Saturday.
Also nominated for this week’s award were Elon men’s tennis player Damon Gooch, UNC Greensboro women’s basketball player Monique Floyd, Furman men’s tennis player Andy Juc, Western Carolina women’s basketball player Lauren Powell, Georgia Southern women’s tennis player Ali Beavers, The Citadel men’s tennis player Yufo Sutabtio and Chattanooga women’s basketball player LaCondra Mason.
