Tripp Merritt announced today that he has named Josh Lustig wide receivers coach for the Wildcat football program.
“Josh has both a playing and coaching background that will make him a great fit for the Davidson environment,” said Merritt. “He is a hard-working, enthusiastic, innovative young coach, and we are looking forward to bringing him into our program.”
Lustig comes to Davidson from Georgetown University, where he served as the slot receivers coach last season. In 2007, he was the tight ends coach at the University of Richmond. The Spiders won the Colonial Athletic Association, advanced to the NCAA?FCS national semifinals and finished No. 4 in the country in the final poll. Richmond set team records in total points, scoring average, touchdowns, total offense and passes completed.
Lustig was a four-year lettermen and two-year starter at William and Mary, where he served as the team captain in 2005. In 2004, the Tribe won the Atlantic 10, finished third in the country in the final poll and recorded the most wins in school history. He won the President’s Award, given to the student-athlete who exemplifies leadership on and off the field.
He began his coaching career as the wide receivers coach at Christopher Newport University, where he also served as the offensive coordinator for the junior varsity team. The Captains’ varsity team won the USA?South Conference championship and an automatic bid to the national playoffs in 2006.
Lustig played high school football at Cathedral Prep in Erie, Pa., where he led his 2000 team to the Pennsylvania AAAA state championship, a No. 2 ranking in the ESPN?National Poll and a No. 4 ranking in the USA Today national poll.
Lustig earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from William and Mary in 2005 and his master’s degree in sports industry management from Georgetown in 2009.
