DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Jennie Mostellar scored in the 60th minute of play to bust up No. 18 Indiana University's shutout bid, as the Hoosier's defeated the Wildcats 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Belk Turf Field.
Davidson, playing its second top-25 team in a row, fell to 2-4 on the young season, while Indiana improved 4-1 overall.
Mostellar's goal came with nine minutes left in the contest as she recorded her first goal of the season and second of her career.
The Wildcats had worked the ball down to field and reached the circle, when they earned a corner. From there, Mostellar was able to shoot a shot past the Indiana goalkeeper among a group of Wildcats and Hoosiers who were each fighting for the ball.
For the Hoosiers, Morgan Fleetwood and Alina Valenti each registered two goals apiece, while Fleetwood added a pair of assists in the win.
The Hoosier duo hooked up for the first two Indiana goals when Valenti netted both of her goals off passes from Fleetwood in the 12th and 14th minutes to start the contest.
One minute later, Jaclyn Milici beat
Christa Goeke with a shot to push the Indiana lead out to 3-0 at the 15:19.
Before the half came to a halt, Indiana tallied two more scores coming off the sticks of Fleetwood and Moeljadi in the 26th and 28th minutes. Milici assisted on the Fleetwood's score, while Mutsa Mutembwa and Kelsey Kiper each earned assists on Moeljadi's goal at the 28:14 mark for a 5-0 lead at the half.
The final score of the day for Indiana came at the 55:10 mark when Fleetwood knocked in her second goal of the game off a corner as Brittney Hacken earned the assist.
For the 'Cats, goalkeeper #Goeke# was credited with four saves, while
Sarah Fisher also picked up four saves as she played the entire second half. Indiana's Alex Mann also picked up four saves.
The shot advantage went to Indiana by the count of 17-11, while it also had a 7-3 lead in penalty corners.
Davidson takes to the road as it opens NorPac play at Appalachian State, Sept. 18 at 7:45 p.m. The Wildcats took two of three against the Mountaineers, including a 3-2 double-overtime win in the NorPac Tournament.
