
Field Hockey Falls to No. 2 North Carolina

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Going up against one of the nation's top teams, the Davidson field hockey team was unable to find the back of the net on their way to a 9-0 defeat to No. 2 North Carolina Tuesday night at Belk Turf Field.
North Carolina got on the board in the third minute of play when Melanie Brill scored the first of her three goals on the night, coming on a rebounded shot from the left side of the net. Brill notched her second goal just over four minutes later to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Tar Heels.
Kelsey Kolojejchick recorded a hat trick as well for UNC, including the final goal of the game, which came with 1:21 remaining in the contest. Kolojejchick led all players with six shots on the night, including four shots-on-goal. Teammate Jacklyn Gaudioso Radvany also had a pair of scores, one in each half.
Despite going into halftime down 7-0, the Wildcats kept the intensity up throughout the match, holding UNC to just two goals in the second frame, and only eight shots.
A highlight for the 'Cats was the play of freshman goalkeeper Sarah Fisher, who made her first career appearance in the net when she came into the game at the 12:02 mark of the first half. Fisher made a game-high five saves in 34:30 minutes of action, including a number of impressive stops against the Tar Heel offense.
All three Davidson goalkeepers saw action on the night, with Christa Goeke making the start and recording three saves in 22:58 minutes, and fellow senior Mary Clay playing the final 12:32 and stopping a pair of shots while allowing just one goal.
With the win, North Carolina improves to 4-0 on the season. Davidson falls to 2-3 overall, and 1-2 at home for the season.
Davidson will close out a two-game homestand this Saturday, Sept. 12 when they take on Indiana at Belk Turf Field. Game time for the first-ever meeting between these two programs is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
