SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ben Altman’s stellar performance for the Davidson wrestling team at the Virginia Duals on Friday and continued success in the classroom earned the senior mathematics major Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 13.
Altman currently leads the Wildcats with a 14-8 overall record and 20 total points in dual matches. The Wilmington, Del. native also sports a 3.867 cumulative grade point average entering his final semester at Davidson.
Wrestling at 125 pounds at the Virginia Duals, Altman scored a pin in the match against Millersville and a technical fall against the Apprentice School. His only loss was an 8-5 decision against Pitt-Johnstown, a Division II school ranked No. 5 in the nation.
Altman has received the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week honor twice previously in his career. He was first recognized as a sophomore for the week of Feb. 22, 2008, and then as a junior for the week of Jan. 12, 2009.
He joins
Sarabeth Peele (volleyball) and
Amanda Flink (women’s soccer) as the third Davidson student-athlete to win the award this season.
Altman and the Davidson wrestling team will return to action on Saturday in Belk Arena. The ‘Cats will face Franklin & Marshall at approximately 1:30 p.m., immediately following the Gardner-Webb vs. Franklin & Marshall match that Davidson is hosting at 12 p.m. The ‘Cats will then challenge Gardner-Webb immediately following the Franklin & Marshall match at approximately 3 p.m.
