GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro tallied four pins en route to a 40-9 victory over Davidson in Southern Conference wrestling action on Wednesday night in Fleming Gymnasium. Alex (133 pounds) and Vitaly (141) Radsky and
Tyler Mullen (165) led the way for the Wildcats, each scoring a decision.
Peter Sturgeon put Greensboro (4-6, 3-1 SoCon) ahead early by pinning junior
Charlie Wolff at 285 pounds. Eric Chandler then followed with a major decision at 125 pounds over senior
Ben Altman to take a 10-0 lead over the Wildcats (2-12, 0-3 SoCon).
The ‘Cats rallied in the next two bouts though as junior
Alex Radsky scored a 9-7 decision over Casey Boyle, and junior
Vitaly Radsky scored a 3-2 decision over Ivan Lopouchanski. Vitaly won the bout in the final seconds, scoring a takedown to overcome a one-point deficit.
The 10-6 margin was as close as the ‘Cats would come though as UNC Greensboro would take five of the six remaining bouts. Alejandro Soto-Perez (149) and Travis Sheehy (157) scored pins to extend their lead to 22-6. A last second escape by Mullen and the riding time point gave Davidson three more points, but the ‘Cats were forced to forfeit the 174- and 184-pound bouts, and Ryan Sughrue scored a pin for Greensboro at 197 pounds for the final 40-9 margin.
The ‘Cats will return home for their next match, a conference dual with The Citadel Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. in Belk Arena.
