DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior Allison Drutchas (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) got the Wildcats back on the winning track by scoring on a penalty kick and then setting up another score in leading the Davidson women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over visiting College of Charleston on Thursday night at Alumni Stadium in Southern Conference action.

Davidson (5-7-3, 1-3-3 SoCon) netted its first league win of the season and pushed its home unbeaten streak to 10 games dating back to last season. The 'Cats are 4-0-2 this year at home and finished out the 2009 season on a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1).

After nearly seeing College of Charleston (6-9, 3-4 SoCon) come up with a goal when Hannah Gmerek's shot hit the crossbar at 1:29 and then a Sarah Schaidle shot go wide in the six-yard box at the two-minute mark, Davidson settled down and earned a penalty kick off a hand ball in the 18-yard box in the 30th minute.

Junior Elizabeth Underwood (Atlanta, Ga.) stole a pass just outside the box and ripped a shot that hit a CofC defender in the hand in the box, resulting in a PK. Drutchas lined up for the free kick and drilled home her third goal of the season for the 'Cats first score of the game.

The senior then setup the second goal off a free kick on the far side of the field in the 79th minute. She sent a long through ball into the six-yard box, where fellow senior Amanda Flink (Richardson, Texas) got in front of her defender and timed the ball perfectly for a header shot to the far post and gave Davidson a 2-0 lead.

Davidson's defense took care of the rest for its sixth shutout win of the season. Goalkeeper Jessie Baxa (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) stopped seven shots to push her record to 5-6-1.

The 'Cats hit the road for their second-to-last away game on Sunday when they play The Citadel at 2 p.m.

GAME NOTES: The 10-game home unbeaten streak is the second-longest in program history and just one away from matching the 11-game streak set during the 2005 and 2006 seasons ... the Wildcats are one SoCon win away from reach 100 in the program's 22-year history ... Davidson is now 11-5 all-time vs. the Cougars and are 5-2 in the last seven meetings ... Drutchas' three points in the game tied a career-high and pushed her season total to a team-high 12 (3 goals, 6 assists) ... the senior's six assists are a personal-best ... Davidson snapped out of a scoring drought with their two goals, the first two goals since it had a pair vs. Wofford, Sept. 26, at Alumni Stadium.
