Davidson Field Hockey Concludes 2010 Season; Meador, Fisher Named to All-Tournament Team

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Returning to the field less than 24 hours after their double-overtime game Friday, Davidson was defeated by Longwood, 2-0 in the third-place game of the 2010 NorPac Field Hockey Championship Saturday afternoon at Belk Turf Field. Junior defender Steph Meador and sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Fisher were named to the NorPac All-Tournament team.
Stanford defeated California in the championship game, 2-0 and advances to the NCAA tournament play-in game Tuesday at UMass, the Atlantic-10 champions.
The match between Davidson and Longwood was scoreless until the 54th minute, when Brittany Diaz scored for Longwood with Kimberly Sullivan earning the assist. Lauren van de Kamp added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute for the final 2-0 margin.
Kaye Goulding made three saves for the shutout , while Fisher made seven stops for Davidson. Junior Hannah Lawrence (Shaker Heights, Ohio) recorded her third defensive save in as many games.
Meador (Hummelstown, Pa.) and Fisher (Fredericksburg, Va.) were honored for their strong defensive play. Fisher made 18 saves and boasted a .783 save percentage.
Despite the heart-breaking finish to the season, 2010 was one of the most successful seasons in Davidson field hockey history. Their 14 wins tied their second-highest total all-time and was the most since 1992 when the 'Cats won a record 15 games. The Wildcats finished the season with a team-record 60 goals and sophomore Finley Amato scored a team-record 39 points (16 goals, 7 assists).
