Alex Thompson's three treys gave her 151 for her career, third-most in the Wildcat record books.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Senior Alex Thompson (Asheville, N.C.) clipped the 20-point mark for the fourth time this year with a game-high 21 points, including three clutch points in the late stages of the game to guide the Davidson Wildcats to a 66-60 Southern Conference road win at Wofford on Tuesday evening in women’s basketball action.

Thompson finished 8-of-13 from the field, draining three treys, while dishing out four assists and hauling in four boards. The senior also had 21 points a year ago at Wofford as Davidson (11-10, 9-4 SoCon) avenged a 14-point defeat to the Terriers.

The senior’s 21 points gives her 963 for her career as she is closing in on becoming the 13th Wildcat in program history to eclipse 1,000 points for a career.

Freshman Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. The forward has had seven of her double-doubles against SoCon foes, including the last two games in a row.

Thompson’s clutch three points came on a three-pointer on the right wing at the 2:50 mark to give Davidson a four-point lead, 59-55, after Wofford (4-17, 2-11 SoCon) nearly erased a 15-point Wildcat halftime advantage by cutting the deficit down to one point with 3:06 left.

The ‘Cats would maintain at least a three-point lead in the final 1:54 to escape with the six-point road win. Senior Monica Laune (Ashland, Neb.) helped seal the win with four points in the last 1:22, including two free throws with six seconds left to put the game out of reach.

Leading 39-24 at halftime, Davidson saw it’s lead dwindle down to three points at 49-46 with 7:56 left in the game after the Terriers used a 22-10 run through the first 12 minutes of the new half. Seven different Terriers scored during the scoring rally, but the Wildcats never relinquished the lead.

A Thompson shot from behind the three-line, her second of the game, gave Davidson a 52-46 advantage, but Wofford closed to within one, 56-55, after April Moorhouse scored four straight points. Moorhouse was one of two Terriers to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Thompson had a hand in the Wildcats’ scoring outburst in the first half, dropping in 13 of her 21 points.

Down 13-12 after a Wofford bucket at the 10:44 mark, Davidson rattled off a 24-4 run over the next eight minutes to turn a one-point deficit into a 36-17 lead with 2:18 on the clock. Wofford twice was forced to call a timeout to try and stop the Wildcats’ momentum.

The run started with a three-ball from redshirt sophomore Chloe Woodington (Honolulu, Hawaii), who went on to spark a 9-0 run in the rally with six of her own points.

Thompson and Aleksandravicius also assisted in the big run dropping in eight points each and the Wildcats closed the half shooting 48.4 percent.

Davidson remains on the road with a 3 p.m. contest vs. UNC Greensboro this Saturday, Feb. 6.

Game Notes: Head Coach Annette Watts is just one SoCon win away from reaching 100 for her career ... Davidson is in the midst of playing eight of its nine games from Jan. 16-Feb. 15 on the road, with this being game No. 4 away from Belk Arena ... Davidson’s defense forced 17 Terrier turnovers and converted those into 23 points ... Thompson has hit the 20-point mark nine times during her career ... the win for the Wildcats was their 16th in the last 18 meetings with the Terriers.
