  • DAVIDSON, N.C. –
Davidson basketball has teamed up again with Samaritan’s Feet for a second year to support phase two of Kicks from ‘Cats, The Lagos Project, which is an effort to raise money to build a school in Lagos, Nigeria.

The theme for Saturday’s basketball game against Georgia Southern is “Paint it Red,” and fans are encouraged to buy a special, $15, red T-shirt at the game, in the Davidson Bookstore, at ‘Cats on Main or online. All proceeds from T-shirt sales will be donated to Kicks from ‘Cats.

The goal for the Lagos Project was born after last summer’s trip to Nigeria with current Wildcat Frank Ben-Eze and former Wildcat Andrew Lovedale ’09. Along with several volunteers, Ben-Eze and Lovedale distributed thousands of pairs of shoes thanks to a Kicks from ‘Cats shoe drive last February.

“Life is all about opportunities,” Ben-Eze said, “and education is a tool, just like basketball. To succeed, you have to have an education because it opens the right doors. I had the opportunities to go to a good school and good camps and play for the national team. Not everybody has those opportunities. The Lagos Project could create a place where these kids could get a good education and break the cycle.”

Samaritan’s Feet will coordinate the logistics of building the school in Lagos in conjunction with Hands at Work Africa, a nonprofit organization.

Fans who spend or donate $20 or more will be entered to win an autographed Stephen Curry trading card. There will be 20 winners announced at Saturday’s game.
