BOONE, N.C. – Freshmen Natalie Atabek and Rosie Lewis were named to the All-Freshman Team as the Davidson Wildcat women’s track and field finished in ninth place on the final day of competition at the 2010 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, N.C.

Atabek made the team on the strength of her All-SoCon performance in the 5,000 meters, while Lewis was named to the team in the 400-meter hurdles, both events contested as a part of yesterday’s competition.

In Sunday’s competition, junior Heather Conarroe finished fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:05.69. Atabek also scored for the Wildcats, finishing with a seventh-place time of 18:23.29.

As a team, the Wildcats finished in ninth place with 19 points, ahead of UNC Greensboro (3) and Wofford (1).

“I am very proud of Natalie and Rosie for their awesome freshman seasons!” head coach Jen Straub said. “For the pair to be named to the All-Freshman team means great things for our future! Heather ran a great race today, too!”

The Western Carolina women won the 2010 SoCon championship, their sixth championship in program history and first since 2008. The Catamount women finished with 221.5 points followed by the Mountaineers in second with 144. Elon’s 123.5 points were good for third. Samford (84), Georgia Southern (83), College of Charleston (66), Chattanooga (27), The Citadel (26) and Furman (21) rounded out the field.
