DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior co-captain Stephanie Gerow (Houston, Texas) became the second student-athlete from Davidson to garner the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week award after she led the Wildcat women's soccer team to a pair of shutout wins last weekend, Oct. 7-9.
Gerow joins runner Demetrios Pagonis as the two Wildcats to have garnered the league's weekly honor this year. The senior played a big part in helping Davidson move to 4-2 in the league with wins at home against Appalachian State (3-0) and Western Carolina (1-0).
The midfielder tied her career-best in a game with three points on her first goal and assist of the year in Friday's triumph vs. the Mountaineers. She got the scoring started in the third minute of the game when she picked up an assist on Carly Brahim's (Rachos Palos?Verdes, Calif.) first collegiate goal.
Then, Gerow put the game away when she headed in a pass from Julie Calhoun (Palos Verdes, Calif.) in the box during the 67th minute for her sixth career score.
On Sunday vs. the Catamounts, Gerow guided the offense in a 1-0 shutout win. In the late stages of the game, she worked the ball to the midfield where a ball was set to Rachel Stelter (The Woodlands, Texas), who gathered it in and dribbled down to the near sideline corner. Stelter then set a perfect cross in the box to Becca Fisher (Fredericksburg, Va.), who took care of the rest, heading in her third game-winning goal of the season.
Gerow, who has started all 14 games this year and 54 in the last three years, has excelled in the classroom as well. She is a two-time All-SoCon?Academic Team member who carries a 3.41 GPA and is majoring in Psychology.
The Wildcats, winners of four of their last five games, look to keep the winning going when they head to play at College of Charleston tonight at 7 p.m. They return home then on Sunday, Oct. 16 for a matchup against The Citadel at 2 p.m., which is also Senior Day.
