DAVIDSON, N.C. — Junior Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) started her first month off in her third year by grabbing the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Month for November as announced by the league office today.
The forward, who the preseason SoCon Player of the Year pick, becomes the third Wildcat to garner the honor since the league's monthly awards were first given during the 2004-05 season. She joins Katie Hamilton (February POM, 2004-05) and Alex Thompson (December POM, 2008-09), who also each earned the award.
Despite Davidson going just 2-4 for the month, Aleksandravicius led the Wildcats by averaging team bests in points (15.8) and rebounds (8.7). The junior had a pair of 20-point games, recorded two double-doubles and scored in double figures in all six games. She shot a team-high 55.4 percent from the field, blocked 10 shots and picked up 12 steals.
The month started off with the junior scoring 20 points and hauling in nine rebounds at Clemson, Nov. 11. Aleksandravicius followed that up with a 17-point and eight-rebound game in a home win vs. Mercer, Nov. 14.
The 6-4 forward registered her first double-double of the season at High Point with season highs in points (22) and rebounds (12). She also hit a team and season-best 10 field goals in that game. Aleksandravicius then ended November with three consecutive 12-point games and recorded her 21st career double-double at Princeton with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also tallied four steals, which was a season-high at the time.
Aleksandravicius is closing in on the 1,000-point mark, needing just 19 more points to become the 15th Wildcat in program history to reach the point total. In addition, the junior is climbing the rebounding charts, need 21 more boards to clip the 600-mark to move into seventh place all-time.
For the season, the forward has started all eight games, while averaging team highs of 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds (tops in the SoCon). She also paces the league in field goal percentage, shooting a career-best 58.2 percent.
Davidson does not return to the hardwood until Dec. 17th when it has a home game at John M. Belk Arena against College of Charleston at 2 p.m.
