About the Series

Appalachian State leads the all-time series with Davidson, 53-26-1, dating back to April 30, 1973. The Mountaineers swept the Wildcats last season and in 2008 in Boone, while Davidson won a lone game the last two times the series was played at Wilson Field, in both 2009 and 2007. Davidson's last series victory over Appalachian was a three-game sweep in 2005 at Wilson Field.

About the Wildcats
The Wildcats enter the weekend ranked seventh with a 16-19 overall record and 8-12 league mark.

Pitching continues to be a strength for the Wildcats, as Davidson enters the weekend with the second-best ERA in the league (4.00). Leading the league with 26 appearances, senior RHP Mike Frongello has the second-best individual ERA (1.83) in the conference behind the seventh-most innings (54.0), while holding hitters to a .242 average (12th) and ranking eighth with five saves. Overcash has the 13th-best ERA (3.14), and Lamb has the second-most strikeouts (63) and innings (58.1) this season. Senior RHP Andy Bass has three saves, 11th among relievers, and Horkley has walked only seven, second best in the SoCon.

Offensively, the Wildcats rank ninth in team average (.252). Junior first baseman Drew Gadaire has the third-best individual average (.388) and also ranks among league leaders in slugging percentage (seventh, .595), on-base percentage (12th, .438), triples (second, 3) and total bases (14th, 72). Freshman left fielder Forrest Brandt is ninth with a .355 average, while also ranking in total hits (sixth, 49) and doubles (seventh, 12). Senior designated hitter Danny Weiss has the sixth-best on-base percentage (.455) behind the fourth-most walks (26), and sophomore shortstop Michael Zeblo is 11th with 22 walks.

About the Mountaineers
Appalachian State is ranked just behind Davidson at eighth with a 22-17 overall record and 7-11 league mark. As a team, the Mountaineers rank fifth in both average (.280) and ERA (4.31) and have the second-best fielding percentage (.969). After a 0-7 start in league play, including sweeps by both The Citadel and Elon, the Mountaineers have rallied behind a sweep of Wofford and a series victories over Furman (2-1), while winning a single game against both Samford and UNCG for the all-important eighth spot.

Individually, outfielder Jack Myers follows Gadaire in average, ranking fourth with a .386 clip. He is 10th with a .445 on-base percentage, and also ranks fourth in hits (54) and seventh in stolen bases (12). The Mountaineers have a pair of players ranked in home runs in third baseman Zach Briggs (fifth, 10) and designated hitter Daniel Kassouf (eight, 6), while first baseman Trey Holmes ranks 10th with 33 RBI. Briggs' slugging percentage (.507) is also 15th-best in the league. Catcher Jeremy Dowdy (sixth, 25) and second baseman Hector Crespo (ninth, 23) each rank in the top 15 in walks, while Dowdy's 12 doubles are the seventh most along with Brandt.

Arrowood has the fourth-best ERA in the league (2.16) and is tied with Lamb for the second-most innings (58.1) while holding hitters to a .230 average, sixth best this season. He ranks fifth with 55 strikeouts, 22 looking for (third), and his five wins ties nine others for third best in the SoCon. Grant ranks sixth in innings (54.1) and has held hitters to a .231 average, seventh best in the league, but he is one of five players— along with Hyatt— with five losses, the most this season. All three of Appalachian's weekend starters are in the top 15 in innings, with Hyatt ranked fourth (57.0), and he also has struck out 48 (seventh) — 17 looking (fourth).
