Wildcats to Compete in NCAA Regionals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Staying close to home, the Davidson women's cross country team will race in the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Friday afternoon at nearby McAlpine Park.
The women's 6k will start at noon and will be followed by the men's 10k at 1:15 p.m. Teams competing in the Southeast Regional include Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Southern Conference schools Appalachian State, College of Charleston, the Citadel, UNC Greensboro, Western Carolina and Wofford will also compete.
It will mark the third time this season the squad will compete at McAlpine Park. The Wildcats previously participated in the Royal Cross Country Challenge on Oct. 12, taking second place to Duke at the even. Prior to that they finished 10th at the Charlotte Cross Country Invite on Sept. 28. Sophomore Presley Parkes paced the squad at both meets, taking sixth at the Royal Challenge with a time of 17:52.5.
The Wildcats recently ran to a fourth-place finish at the 2012 Southern Conference Championships in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Natalie Atabek was the 'Cats' top finisher, taking 13th place to earn all-conference second team honors. Freshman Olivia Menden, who took 37th, was named to the all-freshmen team.
