Women’s Cross Country Takes 23rd at NCAA Southeast Regionals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It was once again Natalie Atabek leading the way in her final career meet for the Davidson women's cross country team as the Wildcats took 23rd place at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Friday afternoon at McAlpine Park.
The 'Cats finished with 640 points and an average time of 22:49.09 to finish ahead of SoCon foes Western Carolina, UNC Greensboro, Wofford and College of Charleston. The ACC's Duke took first overall with 81 points and an average mark of 20:53.89, followed by William & Mary (2nd – 123 points), N.C. State (3rd – 147 points) and Kentucky (4th – 173).
Kentucky's Cally Macumber was the top individual finisher in 20:10.98, followed by Duke's Juliet Bottorff in a time of 20:14.48.
Atabek, who was Davidson's top finisher and an all-conference honoree at the SoCon Championships, was the team's top runner with a time of 22:05.37. She took 72nd place overall.
The 'Cats' next three runners all finished within a nine-second span. Erin Osment crossed the line in 128th place with a time of 22:48.42. She was closely followed by SoCon All-Freshman team member Olivia Menden, who clocked in at 22:53.22 for 134th place. Manya Swick was in the mix as well in 143rd place at 22:57.79.
Mary Dombrowski ran a 23:20.65 for 163rd place, followed by Sarah Paddon in 175th in a time of 23:31.38. Brigid Behrens completed the course in 23:48.74 to round out the Wildcat competitors in 190th place.
The finish marks a five-spot improvement from last season. The Wildcats took 28th place in 2011 with Osment's 86th place finish leading the way.
