Doherty Brings Home NLC Weekly Award for Davidson Lacrosse

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Sophomore Erin Doherty became the fourth Wildcat women's lacrosse player this year to garner a National Lacrosse Conference weekly award as she was named the NLC Co-Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league today.
Davidson has won at least one of the three weekly honors three weeks in a row. Doherty shared the offensive player of the week award with Mackenzie Carroll of High Point and Jen Cosgrove of Jacksonville.
Doherty helped the 'Cats go 1-1 last week, earning a 15-10 decision vs. UC Davis and then falling in the final game of the week against Vermont, 19-9, by scoring a team-high five goals on six shots. The sophomore added two assists for a total of seven points, while picking up six draw controls and one groundball.
The midfielder started her week with a hat trick and added an assist for a game-high four points, which also tied a career-best, in Davidson's first win of the season over UC Davis. The second-year starter added a season-best five draw controls and a groundball in the home win. Doherty helped breakup a 4-all tie in the first half by sparking a game-changing 5-0 run to close out the half with all three of her goals, while assisting on another.
She closed out the week with a pair of goals and an assist for three points vs. Vermont, and picked up another draw control.
Doherty joins Jessica Melby, Abigail Doelger and Emily Rademacher who have all earned one of the three NLC weekly awards.
Davidson will host St. Francis (Pa.), March 7, at 1 p.m. as it continues its six-game homestand.
