BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State's Grace McCall scored her first goal of the season by netting the game-winner in the 109th minute to send Davidson to a tough double-overtime defeat, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in Southern Conference women's soccer action.
McCall deflected in a corner kick from Meggie Graham over the 'Cats' goalkeeper Rachel Locke (Carlsbad, Calif.) in the second overtime to give ASU (6-5, 3-1 SoCon) its third straight win. Davidson fell to 4-6-2 overall and are even in SoCon play at 2-2.
The Wildcats had eight corner kicks, but were unable to convert. They fired off 12 shots, putting three of them on goal, while the Mountaineers had 14 shots with seven on goal.
Locke took the tough-luck loss in goal, finishing with six saves, while Megan Roberson of ASU finished with three.
The Wildcats wrap up a three-game road swing with a trip down to Charleston, S.C., to face The Citadel next Thursday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.
Game Notes: Davidson fell to 19-3-3 all-time vs. Appalachian State … the Wildcats fell to 2-4 on the road … head coach Greg Ashton remains eight wins from 100 for his nine-year career at Davidson.
