DAVIDSON, N.C. – After leading the Wildcats to a 3-0 week by averaging a double-double, senior Sophia Aleksandravicius nabbed her second Southern Conference Player of the Week in the month of January by earning the honor for games through Jan. 28.
Aleksandravicius, who won her fourth career weekly honor, had a monster week averaging a double-double while leading Davidson to wins over UNCG (88-48), Elon (77-62) and Western Carolina (65-56). The forward averaged 19 points and 11.3 rebounds, while shooting 53.7 percent from the floor and 76.5 percent (13-17) at the charity stripe. She also added eight blocks, seven assists and five steals during the week.
Aleksandravicius had a pair of double-doubles to push her season total to 10, while her career mark moved to 40.
The senior started the week off with a 14-point, eight-rebound and four-block performance in a 40-point victory at home versus UNCG, the largest win in the all-time series versus the Spartans.
She played a big part in the Wildcats' next two wins starting with 21 points and a season-high tying 15 rebounds Saturday against Elon. The senior scored 10 of her 21 points in the second half, including five straight in the final five minutes as Davidson closed on a 22-7 run to pull away from the Phoenix.
The 6-foot-5 forward followed that game up with an impressive 22 points and 11 rebounds in guiding the Wildcats to a comeback win vs. Western Carolina Monday evening. Aleksandravicius scored 18 of her points in the second half when Davidson erased a nine-point deficit in the early goings of the second period. She helped spark a 19-9 run to start the new stanza by scoring eight of the points.
She finished 10-for-14 from the field at Western to give her a 22-for-41 showing during the week. With her 11 rebounds, Aleksandravicius moved to within three rebounds from 1,000 for her career.
Aleksandravicius also was tabbed the CollegeSportsMadness.com's SoCon Player of the Week, Jan. 28, for her outstanding week.
The senior, who set the program's all-time scoring mark earlier this month, paces the team with averages of 14.9 points and 10.1 rebounds to go with 57 blocks in 20 games. She leads the SoCon in both rebounds and blocks.
The Wildcats, winners of four in a row and eight of their past nine overall, continue on their three-game road trip with a 5 p.m. contest at Georgia Southern Saturday, Feb. 2.
