DAVIDSON, N.C. – Senior Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) averaged a double-double on the week in leading Davidson to a pair of league wins as she picked up her first Southern Conference Player of the Week honor this season for games over Jan. 2-7, as announced today by the league office.
The 6-5 forward averaged 18.5 points and 12 rebounds in guiding the Wildcats to wins over Appalachian State (65-49) and College of Charleston (65-57). The two wins pushed Davidson's league mark to 3-0, the only team unbeaten in conference play.
In addition, she shot an even 50 percent for the week while dishing out seven assists and picking up five blocks.
Aleksandravicius started the week with an 18-point, 12-rebound effort in a big win over Appalachian State, which shared the regular season title with the 'Cats a season ago. She hit 7-of-11 shots and added four free throws. The senior capped off her week with a strong effort on the road, netting a game-high tying 19 points, 14 of them in the first half, and pulling in another 12 rebounds in Davidson's third straight win over CofC. She also dished out a season-best four assists and swatted away three shots.
Aleksandravicius had her ninth and 10th double-digit scoring games of the season, while pushing career double-double mark to 37 by picking up her sixth and seventh of the season.
With her 37 combined points for the week, the senior forward is now just 16 away from setting Davidson's all-time points mark, which would surpass Hall of Famer Jennifer O'Brien's career record of 1,510.
The player of the week honor was Aleksandravicius' third of her career to go with a pair of player of the month awards she won last year. She was the league's preseason player of the year pick after winning the top player honor last year as voted on by the coaches.
Davidson, winners of its last four straight SoCon games and 15 of its past 17 overall, travels to Wofford this Saturday, Jan. 12, for a 2 p.m. contest against the Terriers.
