DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior shooting guard Laura Murray captured the Wildcats' first weekly award this season when she was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for games spanning from Nov. 26-Dec. 3, as announced by the league office today.
The weekly award is Murray's second of her career and first since earning the honor back in 2011-12. Samford's Ellen Riggins was selected as the CRONS Freshman of the Week this past week.
Murray averaged 20.5 points, five rebounds and four assists in Davidson's two games against N.C. State and Gardner-Webb, Nov. 26 & 30. She scored 21 points in the Wildcats' 86-63 defeat at N.C. State last Tuesday.
The senior guard followed up by scoring 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, while tying her career-best with seven assists to go with a season-high tying five steals in a 78-74 win over Gardner-Webb Saturday at home.
Murray finished the week shooting 48.1 percent, including 50 percent from behind the arc. She has scored 20-plus points in five of Davidson's eight games this year and has topped 20 points 22 times in her career. The guard has scored in double figures in all eight games so far and is averaging a team-best 18.6 points, ranking second in the SoCon.
Davidson (3-5) welcomes the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to John M. Belk Arena Wednesday evening as the Wildcats continue with their six-game homestand. Game time is set for 7 p.m. For a game preview of Wednesday's game, click here on Davidson vs. Rutgers.
