EUGENE, Ore. – Ann Fucigna scored three goals and Davidson erased an early four-goal deficit, but were held scoreless in the final 15 minutes of the game as the Wildcats fell 7-6 in a low-scoring affair at Oregon in women's lacrosse on Friday night.
Oregon (4-1) won its fourth straight and picked up its third consecutive victory by one goal. Davidson (1-3) remained winless against the Ducks, falling to 0-4 in the all-time series that dates back to 2005.
Fucigna pushed her goal total to 10 on the year. She has scored seven of those goals in the past two games. The junior helped bring Davidson back from an early 5-1 deficit with her three goals in the first half.
Alanna Parker, Lindsay Cooper and Mary Leonard each scored a goal apiece, while Emily Cooke dished out a pair of assists to give her a team-best 13 on the year.
Oregon's Kate Cathell netted three goals, while Shannon Propst dished out three assists.
After Fucigna gave Davidson an early 1-0 lead, Cathell helped the Ducks race out to a 5-1 lead with a pair of goals.
Down 5-4 at the break, Cooper knotted things up at the 22:16 mark off an assist from Cooke. Seven minutes later, Parker tied things up again at 6-all, but Oregon broke up the tie once again with a Sami Kiser score off a Propst assist and 11:14 on the clock.
The Ducks' defense took care of the rest, holding the 'Cats to just one shot the remainder of the way in taking the win.
The Ducks held a one-shot lead, 19-18, for the game, while grabbing 14 groundballs. Davidson went just 1-for-4 on free-position shots. The 'Cats did have a game-high of 11 draw controls.
Senior Jessica Melby had her second straight 10-save game in goal, giving her 30 on the campaign. Emma Sissman had five draw controls, while Paige Logan picked up three. Abigail Doelger forced a pair of turnovers.
Davidson returns home for a 6 p.m. contest Tuesday, March 12, against Robert Morris at Richardson Stadium.
