DAVIDSON, N.C. — Starting point guard Shannon Eriksson collected her first career weekly award by being named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for games from Jan. 1-8, as announced today by the league office today.
It was a career week for the junior, who led Davidson to a 1-1 trip to Samford (W, 83-68) and Chattanooga (L, 64-72) this past weekend. Eriksson averaged 15 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while shooting a solid 55.6 percent from the floor. She was perfect at the line, going 7-for-7, and hit 60 percent of her three-point attempts.
The weekend started off with Eriksson dropping in a career-high 16 points Saturday at Samford on 4-of-7 shooting and a personal-best 6-for-6 at the 15-foot line. She pulled in seven rebounds and pocketed a couple of steals.
Eriksson followed her career game up with a 14-point, 8-rebound performance at Chattanooga Monday night, Jan. 6. The Fairfax, Va., native, drained a career-high six field goals and five of her career-best eight rebounds were on the offensive glass.
A SoCon All-Academic Team member last year, Eriksson holds a 3.62 grade point average in chemistry. She is the first student-athlete of the week for Davidson this year.
Davidson (6-9, 3-1 SoCon) starts a two-game homestand this weekend when it hosts Elon Saturday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. It will finish out the homestand with a Monday night affair against UNCG at 7 p.m.
