PISCATAWAY, N.J. — No. 21/24 Rugters shot 56.8 percent in the first half in building a 38-point lead and Davidson was never able to recover in dropping a 100-44 decision at The RAC Sunday afternoon in women's basketball non-conference action.
Davidson saw its season-high three-game win streak come to an end, falling to 3-3 on the year. The Scarlet Knights pushed the nations longest win streak to 12 straight and remained perfect at 6-0.
Rutgers' put five players in double figures with Tyler Scaife scoring a game-high 23 points. Betnijah Laney followed with 19 points and 12 rebounds, her sixth consecutive double-double. The duo combined for 26 points in the first half as RU led 55-17 at halftime.
Starters Kahleah Copper and Rachel Hollivay scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, and Syessence Davis came off the bench for 11 points, eight assists and eight steals.
For the third time this year, Hannah Early paced the 'Cats as she scored 13 points, hitting all four of her field goals from behind the arc. Mackenzie Latt added 10 points, while Saadia Timpton came off the bench for eight points, three rebounds and two steals.
Rutgers finished the game shooting a season-high 57.1 percent and missed just six of its 29 free throw attempts. Davidson was held to 29.3 percent on 17-of-58 shooting, while being outrebounded 45-30.
The Scarlet Knights raced out to an 18-6 lead five minutes into the start of the game and never looked back. The 'Cats lone points in the run came off a pair of long three-balls by Early. Later, Diona Johnson hit a three-pointer to make it 40-13.
The second half saw RU push its lead out to 58 points (100-42) with 1:29 left after Cynthia Hernandez finished off a four-point play with a free throw.
The 'Cats have a quick turn around, heading back home to host North Carolina A&T for the first time Tuesday to open the month of December. Game time set for 7 p.m.
GAME NOTES: Davidson trails the all-time series 3-0 …. it was the third straight year both schools played each other …. the Wildcats reached the double-digit mark in offensive rebounds for the sixth game in a row with 12 … Early's four three-pointers gave her 110 for her career, one away from moving into ninth place all-time in the Wildcat record books … she has scored in double digits 34 times now, including all six games this year … RU scored 30 points on fast-break buckets and 46 in the paint.
