DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson College Athletic Department and the Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) has been awarded a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Commander's Award. The award is given by the Marine Corps To the "Toys For Tots" Sponsors who are considered the most generous.
Davidson participated in its annual Toys for Tots Campaign back in December and finished it with a culminate in a celebration of toys at the men's basketball game vs. Niagara, Dec. 13. Fans brought new, unwrapped toys or donation of at least $5.00 for the cause.
SAAC collected over 300 toys during the drive.
All the toys collected went to less fortunate children in the area to make the holidays a magical one for deserving children.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
