HIGH POINT, N.C.  —  Hannah Early hit a pair of free throws with 2:37 left in the second overtime and it proved to be the winning points to send Davidson to a 62-60 triumph on the road at High Point Tuesday evening in the Millis Center during non-conference women's basketball action.

The double-overtime game was the first for the Wildcats (2-2) since Feb. 15, 2005 at UNCG and their first win in the two extra periods since downing Canisius 83-79 on Dec. 3, 2000.

Dakota Dukes recorded her second straight double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, both season highs, and her last two points were clutch as they came in the second overtime. The senior also blocked a career-high six shots.

Early registered 10 points and pulled in 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the year, while Mackenzie Latt gave Davidson three double-digit scorers with 14 points. She also filled up the box score with nine rebounds, four assists and four steals, all season bests.

High Point's (1-4) Kaylah Keys nearly carried the Panthers to the win, dropping in a game-high 34 points. She got 27 of those points combined in the third and fourth quarters, and both overtimes. The junior went 13-of-33 from the floor and 7-of-16 from behind the arc.

Davidson held HPU to 30 percent shooting, including only 7-of-27 from behind the arc. It also won the battle on the boards for the third time this campaign, pulling in a season-high 55, with 17 of them on the offensive glass for 19 second-chance points.

Justine Lyon had given the 'Cats a 58-55 lead with a free throw and 2:01 left on the clock in the first overtime, but Keys nailed a three to tie it up and both teams eventually went to the second overtime.

Dukes hit the first bucket of the second OT, but High Point tied it up at 60-all with a pair of free throws and 3:44 left. Early drew a foul with 2:37 on the clock and calmly swished home both shots for a 62-60 score. Davidson's defense took care of the rest, forcing two turnovers and then Lyon blocked her first collegiate shot by swatting away a Keys' layup with 1.1 seconds left on the clock.

Davidson was up six twice (46-40 & 50-44) in the fourth quarter, only to see Keys get hot and carry the Panthers for the whole quarter. She scored 12 of their 13 points, including her sixth triple of the game that made it 53-50 with 1:11 left.

A Latt bucket inside with 57 ticks left made it 53-52 and the 'Cats had a chance to win it, but Dukes hit just 1-of-2 free throws with 3.4 seconds to send the game into its first overtime.

Davidson weathered a stretch of over nine minutes where it went without a field goal that spanned from the end of the first quarter into the second quarter to hold a 27-22 lead at the break. The 'Cats rattled off a 12-0 run to close out the second quarter and regain the lead after being down 22-15.

Davidson will next head to Wilmington, N.C. to participate in the UNC Wilmington Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Tournament, Nov. 27-28.

GAME NOTES: This was the 10th meeting overall between the two schools, with both teams having won five each now … both teams were playing each other for the fifth year in a row … the 'Cats' seven-game road swing to start the year is the longest since an eight-game trip at the beginning of the 2009-10 campaign … Dukes' double-double was the 12th of her career, while Early picked up her seventh … Davidson finished with nine blocks as a team, three off of last year's school-record tying 12 against this same High Point squad … the Wildcats' 44 points in the paint were a season-best.
