NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Playing their first year in the Atlantic 10, the Davidson women's lacrosse team was well represented in the end of the year accolades for the conference, as four Wildcats were honored with spots on the league's second team and all-rookie team.
The pair of senior Emily Rademacher and junior Holly Thomas were named to the A-10 All-Second Team and the freshmen duo of Paige Farrar and Rachel Hianik were two of the 12 first-year players to be named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.
All four helped Davidson finish 3-5 in its first year in the A-10, while going 6-10 overall.
Leading the way was two-time team captain Rademacher, the do-it-all midfielder. The senior capped off her Wildcat career with a solid final season, pacing the team with 27 goals and 39 points. She also added 26 groundballs, 41 draw controls – second-most on the team – and forced nine turnovers. With her 41 draw controls, Rademacher ended her career second all-time in program history with 142.
A two-time Big South All-First Team member in 2013 and 2014, Rademacher concluded her career with 89 goals, 36 assists, including a personal-best 12 this year, and 125 points to go with 88 groundballs and 32 caused turnovers. The senior started 60 of her 70 career games played, while finishing with 26 multi-goal games.
The Lynchburg, Va., native closed out her career with a standout final game. Rademacher registered a career-high six points on a season-high tying three goals and a personal-best three assists in leading Davidson to a 15-7 win at home over St. Bonaventure.
Anchoring the Wildcats' defense was Thomas along with Hianik. The junior Thomas had a personal best junior season, recording career highs in groundballs (33), draw controls (21) and caused turnovers with 21, which was tops on the team. Eleven times the junior hauled in two or more groundballs in a game, while six times forcing multiple turnovers. Thomas had a career-high four vs. Saint Francis, March 6.
Hianik was one of seven Wildcats, along with Thomas, to start all 16 games and the only freshman on the team to do so. She finished with 15 groundballs and seven caused turnovers.
Helping Rademacher on the offensive end was Farrar, who played in all 16 games during her first year. She was very efficient with her 11 shots, scoring seven goals on them and adding an assist for eight points. Farrar also chipped in 10 groundballs, six draw controls and eight caused turnovers, tying for third-most on the team.
The midfielder's final three games saw her score five goals to go with three groundballs, two draw controls and two caused turnovers as the Wildcats won two of those games.
Massachusetts, which won the regular season title for the sixth straight year by going undefeated, claimed three of the top four league player awards. Erika Eipp was named the A-10 Offensive Player of the Year, Hannah Murphy picked up Midfielder of the Year and Rachel Vallarelli was the Defensive Player of the Year. The league's coach of the year honor went to UMass' Angela McMahon. Earning A-10 Rookie of the Year was Kim Egizi of Richmond.
