DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson women's basketball head coach Michele Savage announced today the addition of Shannon Gholar to her staff as an assistant coach.
Gholar comes to Davidson after a two-year stint at Vermont as an assistant coach under head coach Lori Gear McBride.
"Shannon is an excellent addition to our staff," said Savage, who wrapped up her fifth year at Davidson this past season. "She has an unbelievable work ethic and a very high basketball IQ. She brings high energy and a passion to recruit the best student-athletes in the country. We're very excited to have her join the Davidson women's
basketball family."
While at Vermont, Gholar oversaw the recruiting aspect of the program in organizing campus, official and home visits, as well as initial prospect evaluation. She also worked with the guards in their development.
Prior to her time at Vermont, Gholar was a graduate assistant at Arizona State for two years where she worked under Charli Turner Thorne. She assisted the Sun Devils in many aspects of the program from skill workouts and recruiting to game management and marketing of the team.
Gholar, a native of Monrovia, Calif., began her collegiate career at Cal Poly San Louis Obispo where she was a guard for two seasons. She finished out the final two years playing at Cal State San Bernardino.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Cal State San Bernardino in 2011 and completed her master's degree in higher education at Arizona State in 2013.
Davidson returns nine letterwinners, including its top-four scorers, for the 2015-16 season from last year's team that played in its first year in the Atlantic 10.
