NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Sophomore goalkeeper Rose Woolson earned Davidson's first weekly lacrosse award from the Atlantic 10 after being named the league's defensive player of the week for games played from March 7-13.
Â
It is the first career weekly honor for Woolson and Davidson's first award since last year when the duo Emily Cooke and Christine Molinari were named offensive player and rookie of the weeks, Feb. 16, 2015.
Â
Woolson played a big part in helping the Wildcats to a pair of wins last week over Holy Cross (8-7) and High Point (12-7). The Baltimore, Md., native combined for 18 saves, 10 groundballs and one caused turnover in the two wins.
Â
Her week started off with a career-high tying 10-save effort and a personal-best six groundballs against Holy Cross. Woolson's first career turnover in the game with 2:17 left proved to be big as it led to the 'Cats scoring the winning goal with just over a minute to go.
Â
The sophomore followed up her solid game Tuesday vs. the Crusaders with another great outing Friday night vs. the Panthers. Woolson improved to 3-1 on the season between the pipes by getting eight saves to go with four groundballs. Davidson stopped a four-game skid the series vs. HPU with the win.
Â
On the season, Woolson has started four of the 'Cats' five games and earned 30 saves to go with a team-high 11 groundballs.
Â
The Wildcats (3-2) wrap up three games in an eight-day span by hosting Lehigh Tuesday, March 15, at 6:30 p.m.
