DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the second week in a row, the Davidson women's soccer team picked up an Atlantic 10 Player of the Week with sophomore goalkeeper Alex Carpenter earning the defender of the week, as announced by the league office today.
Carpenter, who earns her first career weekly award, joins Seeley Yoo, who was named the league's rookie of the week, Sept. 6, as the past two Wildcat winners.
A native from Lee's Summit, Mo., the sophomore had a strong week between the pipes in leading Davidson to a 1-1 record. Carpenter finished with 16 saves, a 0.67 goals against average and earned half a shutout in games vs. Marist and Wake Forest last week.
In Thursday's 6-0 shutout win vs. Marist, Carpenter started the contest and shut out the Red Foxes for the first 45 minutes while recording a pair of saves. She was credited with her second win of the season, as she teamed with Becca Ravitz, who played the last 45 minutes of the game and tallied six saves, to earn the team's second shutout on the season.
Despite suffering a 1-0 setback Sunday on the road against an unbeaten Wake Forest squad, Carpenter played very well in goal as she helped keep the 'Cats within striking distance. The sophomore came up with a personal-best 14 saves to push her season total to a team-best 35.
Carpenter has started all six of her games played and owns a 1.01 GAA, which puts her sixth in the A-10. Her 35 saves are tops in the league, while her .875 save percentage ranks third-best.
Davidson continues with its three-game road trip with a Thursday night matchup at Elon.
