RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State raced out to a double-digit lead in the first three minutes of the game and Davidson was never able to recover, falling on the road 73-49 in a Sunday afternoon women's basketball non-conference game at Reynolds Coliseum.

N.C. State (2-0) raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, leading by as many as 25 points. It would hit 11 of its first 14 shots to go up 26-7 before closing the first quarter up 27-13. The Wolfpack shot 64.7 percent in the quarter.

Davidson (1-1) battled back to get within 10 (30-20) in the second quarter behind back-to-back triples from the freshmen tandem Kelly Fitzgerald and Sarah Donovan. But, the Wolfpack answered with a 13-3 run to close in the final six minutes to go up 43-23 at the half.

Justine Lyon was the lone Wildcat to reach double digits, scoring 12 points, while coming up with seven rebounds and two steals. Freshmen Katie Turner and Donovan tallied nine points each, both season highs, with Turner getting all nine from behind the arc.

Mackenzie Latt tied Lyon for team-high honors with seven boards and both teams hauled in 39 rebounds apiece. Davidson had a game-high 14 on the offensive end that help lead to 13 second-chance points.

The 'Cats found their touch from downtown, draining 8-of-19 shots from long range led by Turner's 3-for-5 showing.

The Wolfpack nailed nine three-pointers and finished the game shooting 45.8 percent overall from the floor.

Davidson continues on with its season-opening four-game road trip by traveling to Furman this coming Wednesday, Nov. 15.

GAME NOTES: This was the eighth meeting all-time between both teams and N.C. State now leads 7-1, having won the last seven straight in the series … this was the fourth time in the past five years both teams were playing each other, all at N.C.
