Donovan Paces Four Double-Digit Scorers, ‘Cats Win 81-69

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Freshman Sarah Donovan had game highs of 19 points and eight rebounds to pace four scorers in double figures, and Davidson captured an 81-69 exhibition home win over Johnson C. Smith Friday night in women's basketball inside John M. Belk Arena.
 
Donovan drained 7-of-12 shots and swished home all four free throws in her first collegiate action as a Wildcat. The Canada native scored six of the Wildcats' final 11 points in the fourth quarter.
 
Katie Turner, Justine Lyon and Kianna Speight each scored 12 points. Speight nailed 4-of-5 shots from downtown, while Turner filled the box score with a game-high six dimes and pocketed three steals.
 
Monique Hall's 15 points paced the Golden Bulls, while Malia Rivers added 11 points off the bench. Johnson C. Smith shot 51 percent for the game.
 
Davidson led by as many as 16 points before JCSU cut its lead to five, 70-65, midway through the fourth quarter. The Wildcats put the game away by going on an 11-4 run in the final five minutes.
 
As a team, the Wildcats went 20-for-24 at the charity stripe, led by Andrea Robinson's 6-for-8 showing, while outrebounding JCSU 40-24.
 
Davidson outscored the Golden Bulls in all four quarters, including a 23-point outing in the first quarter led by Turner's eight points for a 23-16 lead.
 
Davidson begins its 2017-18 season with a four-game road trip, starting at Western Carolina, Nov. 10.
