Davidson Invitational Wraps Up Day One Friday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Day one of the Davidson men's tennis Invitational is in the books, as the Wildcats played doubles matches Friday afternoon at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
Joining the 'Cats at the invitational this weekend is USC-Upstate, UNC Asheville, Campbell, Gardner-Webb and Queens from just down the road in Charlotte.
Doubles was played on the first day with three Wildcat teams taking home wins. The pair of Shamael Chaudhry and David Hager teamed up at No. 1 vs. Queens to score a 6-1 victory for eight points.
At No. 2 the duo of Artem Khrapko and Matthew Rose netted a 6-3 win and then later scored a 6-4 decision against a team from USC-Upstate to finish the day with 12 points.
Reigning Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year Axel Fries and Hager teamed up against Gardner-Webb at No. 1 doubles to earn a 7-5 victory to given themselves eight points as well.
Making their Fall collegiate debuts were the freshmen quartet of Kevin Huang, Alexander Loope, Yash Parikh and Camden Mazzoni. Teaming up was Huang and Loope in a match against Gardner-Webb and they narrowly missed scoring a win after falling 7-5 in a tie-breaker at No. 4.
The invitational is a points system, with points being determined based on position. The No. 1 singles position is worth 16 points and going two points down at each position to No. 8, which is worth two points. The top doubles spot is worth eight points, then going down to No. 4, which is worth two.
Play continues Saturday with singles action starting at 9 a.m.
