Wildcats Drop Opener to Lehigh

DAVIDSON — Trevor Candelaria had two hits Friday night, but the Davidson Wildcats could generate little else in a 5-0 season-opening loss to Lehigh at Wilson Field.
Candelaria singled in the second inning and doubled to left-center in the fifth to account for half of Davidson's hits.
Freshman Eli Putnam, starting his first game at third base, notched his first college with a second-inning double to right-center, and Jake Wilhoit had a single in the eighth.
Starter Nolan DeVos threw four innings and struck out six, while allowing four hits, including a Riley Davis RBI-single in the fourth. Leadoff hitter Jake Whitlinger led Lehigh with three hits and two RBIs.
Wildcat Ryan Wilson had a run-saving diving catch in right field to end the second.

The second game of the series is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Field.
