DeVos Leads 'Cats Past No. 22 Bryant

DAVIDSON — Nolan DeVos said his entire pitching arsenal was working for him Friday night.
No kidding.
DeVos struck out 13 in eight innings and set the tone in Davidson's 3-0 win over No. 22 Bryant at Wilson Field. It's the fourth straight win for the Wildcats and first over a nationally ranked team since defeating No. 16 South Carolina 9-4 last March.
"I was able to get my fastball everywhere I wanted," said DeVos, who led the Atlantic 10 with eight saves last year. "I was up and out and in low. The slider and curveball were there, too, and it's always a good day when I have them."
DeVos struck out the first two batters of the game, one in the second and two in the third. He added a strikeout in the fourth, when Bryant posed its biggest threat with two singles, then struck out two in the fifth inning, which ended with him fielding a hot shot up the middle for a 13 putout. From there, he struck out one in the sixth, two in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Bryant starter Collin Lowe had his own gem going until the the Wildcats broke through in the sixth with three straight singles from Parker Nolan, Michael Carico and Trevor Candelaria, with Candelaria's shot to right plating Nolan. Four batters later, the Wildcats made it 2-0 when Jake Wilhoit drew a bases-loaded two-out walk.
Nolan added the third run on a homer to left in the bottom of the seventh, his first of the year.
Gabe Levy earned his second save of the year, throwing a scoreless ninth.
Ryan Wilson led the way with three hits, while Carico joined Nolan with two hits and doubled for the fourth straight game.
