DAVIDSON — The Davidson baseball team scored 28 runs, withstood some soggy conditions and swept a Friday evening doubleheader against Norfolk State at Wilson Field.
With the 16-0 and 12-3 home wins, the Wildcats improved to 11-3.
Game 1
Michael Carico led off with a double and set the tone with a 4-for-4 day in the 16-0 series-opening win.
Carico added two singles and a two-run home run, his third of the year, as the Wildcats built a 9-0 lead through four innings.
Trevor Candelaria and Parker Nolan hit three-run and solo home runs, respectively, and in all, nine Wildcats drove in runs, beginning with Ryan Wilson's RBI-double that scored Carico in the first and ending with Hunter Anderson's eighth-inning sacrifice fly.
Nolan DeVos, the reigning Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, was lights out again, tossing seven innings and striking out 11, while walking one and allowing only a Steven Shaffer second-inning single.
Isaac Fix struck out four in the final two innings to end it.
Game 2
Wilson's three-run home run broke a 3-3 tie in the second inning, and Davidson cruised from there to a 12-3 win in the nightcap.
