DAVIDSON — Michael Carico and Parker Nolan homered, and Davidson pitchers kept the Columbia Lion bats at bay in a 5-2 win at Wilson Field Friday night.
The Wildcats (8-1) have now won their last eight games.
Carico, who entered the night tied for the national lead with seven doubles, went deep with a solo shot to right. His first homer of the year made it 2-0, as the Wildcats were on their way to a 5-0 lead.
Nolan's blast to left, his second of the year, was a two-run shot in the fourth. It drove in Henry Koehler and made it 5-0, after Koehler had plated Anthony Mase with a hard-hit single up the middle.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first when Jake Wilhoit singled in John Hosmer, who was hit by a pitch and moved up on a Ryan Wilson walk.
Nolan DeVos earned his second win of the year, throwing five innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine, including the side in the first. Nick Shedleski threw the next three frames before Gabe Levy recorded the final three outs for his fourth save.
Columbia's Hayden Schott and Anton Lazits drove in runs in the eighth.
Koehler, Nolan and Wilhoit each had two hits, and Hosmer led the Davidson defense with multiple tough plays at third, including catching a laser liner in the fourth and throwing out two runners in the sixth.
