Wildcats Fall Twice Friday, Exit A-10 Tournament

It was the Wildcats' second loss of the day, following a 14-6 defeat to No. 2 VCU, and dropped Davidson to a program-best 43-13.
The Wildcats, who went 20-4 against A-10 foes in the regular season, ultimately ran into the surging Spiders, who ended Friday with their fourth straight win of the week. And Richmond, which will now play rival VCU in Saturday's championship round, showed little signs of being the team that was swept on the same field in the first league series of the year.
The Spiders knocked 19 hits Friday night and responded each time Davidson inched closer on the scoreboard.
Davidson had its promising moments, however. Michael Carico hit his Wildcat-record 21st home run of the season, and second of the day, in the first inning. Then Ryan Wilson and Henry Koehler both homered in the ninth to get the Wildcats within three runs. But Richmond hit three homers as well and had six players with multiple hits, led by Dominic Toso (4-for-6).
Earlier Friday, VCU built an eight-run lead in the first six innings en route to the eight-run win.
The Rams got on the board with a Tyler Locklear three-run home run in the third, and Jacob Selden added a solo shot in the fourth.
Carico got Davidson started a solo home run, his 20th, in the seventh. Also in the seventh, Jacob Hinderleider hit his 12th home run, a two-run blast to left.
