FAIRFAX, Va.  —  George Mason's Taylor Brown scored six of the Patriots' last eight points, including the go-ahead layup with 10 seconds left and Davidson's last-second effort fell short as it dropped a 63-60 decision in Atlantic 10 women's basketball action Sunday afternoon in the Patriot Center.

Hannah Early had tied the game up at 59-all on a three-ball from the left wing off an inbounds play with 42.4 seconds left. George Mason fouled away from the ball during the play, resulting in the 'Cats getting the ball right back. Dakota Dukes would then draw a shooting foul with 20 seconds left and hit the second free throw give Davidson a 60-59 lead.

Brown then drove down on the Patriots' next possession and hit a baseline layup to make it 61-60. Davidson quickly came up the court and called a timeout with eight ticks left. But on their inbounds play, the Wildcats threw the ball away and George Mason sealed the win with a pair of free throws. Alexandra Long's last-second shot from just past midcourt rimmed out as the buzzer sounded.

George Mason (12-11, 4-6 A-10) put a pair in double figures with Brown scoring a game-high 21 points. Jasmine Jordan added 16 points. The duo combined to score the final 13 points for the Patriots, helping erase a six-point deficit in the last five minutes.

Early reached the 20-point mark for the third time this year, and 11th of her career, with an even 20 to lead Davidson (5-19, 1-10 A-10). She tallied 15 of those points in the second half as she moved within nine points of 1,000 for her career.

Joining the junior in double digits was Mackenzie Latt with her ninth double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, getting a season-high eight on offense, while Lillian McCabe dropped in 11 off the bench, hitting 3-of-6 shots from downtown. Dukes finished with 10 rebounds, while Saadia Timpton contributed six points, five rebounds and a season-high five assists.

The game featured eight ties and 14 lead changes, including five ties and eight lead changes in the first half alone.

Davidson had taken a 56-50 lead on Early's third triple of the game with 5:09 left, but George Mason used a 9-0 run to grab a three-point lead with 44 seconds remaining.

Down 43-42, the 'Cats used a quick 7-0 run, finished off by a Shannon Eriksson running shot in the lane, to regain the lead at 49-43 with just over nine minutes left in the second half. Davidson opened the new half on a 9-0 spurt to erase a 33-31 halftime deficit.

Back-to-back treys by McCabe made it 17-16 in favor of Davidson early in the first half.

Later, six straight points by the Patriots' Brown, who had 12 for the half, gave them a 30-24 lead before the Wildcats got right back in it before the final horn of the half. Behind the strong play of Latt, the freshman would score the 'Cats' last seven points to give her 14 for the half and Davidson closed gap at 33-31 at halftime.

For the 11th time and third straight game, Davidson reach the 40-rebound mark, getting a game-high 44 with 17 coming on offense. George Mason, which had 28 rebounds, finished the game shooting 10-for-32 from behind the arc.

The 'Cats will take some time off before returning home for a 2 p.m. game against Saint Louis next Saturday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m.

GAME NOTES: Early's 62 three-pointers on the season are four away from tying Ashley Lax's single-season record of 66 set in 2008-09 … Early's 13 three-point attempts in the game tied the single-game school record set by the junior at Virginia earlier this season ... the double-digit scoring game was the 50th of Early's career ... Both teams were playing each other for the first time … Latt has recorded five of her nine double-doubles against A-10 opponents … it was the second time this year Davidson has had a pair of players register double-digit rebounds in the same game.
