DAVIDSON, N.C. — Former Southern Conference Freshman of the Year (2010-11) Laura Murray (Harrisburg, Pa.) added to her career accolades with her first career SoCon Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor as announced by the league today for games from December 20-Jan. 2.

It marks the 24th time a Wildcat has been honored with the league's player of the week award and Murray is the 15th player in Davidson history to garner the weekly honor.

She becomes the first Wildcat to be tabbed player of the week this year and second player to earn an honor. Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) was named the November Player of the Month to start the season.

Murray was also tabbed one of the College Sports Madness' conference player's of the week as announced on Sunday, Jan. 8.

Murray led Davidson to a 1-1 record over the holiday break, averaging 20.5 points and shooting a solid 58.3 percent from the floor, including a sizzling 55.6 percent from three-land (5-9). She also hauled in nearly five boards a game (4.5) during the two contests against Radford and Wake Forest.

The sophomore led the Wildcats to an 81-68 win at Radford, Dec. 22, for their season-best fifth straight win. She tallied a team-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting, hitting a season-high tying three triples, while pulling in six rebounds and dishing off three assists. Murray also tied her season-best with five defensive rebounds.

To close out the 2011 calendar year, the guard went off for a team and season-high 22 points at Wake Forest, Dec. 31. She hit 8-of-14 shots from the field and drained all four of her free throws. Murray scored 11 second-half points and nearly helped the Wildcats erase an 11-point deficit in the half, getting the Wildcats to within one point twice before falling 68-66.

On the season, Murray is second on the team in scoring at 14.3 points per game, while leading the team in three-pointers (20) and three-point shooting (.385). She has started all 12 games, and ranks second in assists, 28, and third in steals, 25, on the team.

Davidson will entertain Elon on Wednesday evening (7 p.m.), before traveling to Furman for a Saturday afternoon tip-off.
